INFORMATION AND GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS
1. School Hours:
Monday to Friday
9.00 a.m. - 12.30 p.m.
1.30 p.m. - 3.50 p.m.
Students should be in school at 9.00 a.m. for the commencement of morning classes and at l.25 p.m. for afternoon classes. If a student is unavoidably late she should bring a note of explanation from her parents - this should be written in the space assigned in the class diary.
2. Absenteeism greatly hinders progress. If for any reason your daughter is absent, written notification must be sent to the Deputy-Principal or Year Head
If such notification is not received it will be assumed that your daughter has been absent without your knowledge. Such absence will be considered a breach of school discipline.
Education Welfare Board are notified of 20 days or more absence of students.
3. Permission for foreseen absence or half-days should be obtained on the previous day from the Deputy-Principal or Year Head using the class diary for such notes.
4. Doctor’s and dental appointments should, as far as possible, be arranged for times outside of school hours.
5. If you feel that some details of your daughter’s temperament, background, health etc., would help for teachers to understand her better, please do not hesitate to inform us.
6. School progress reports are issued at Christmas and Summer for non-exam classes and around Easter for exam classes.
7. Parent/Teacher meetings are held annually. It is very important that every effort is made to attend these meetings. Appointments can be made to meet Year Heads at other times by writing to or telephoning the School Secretary at 023-33737, during school hours.
8. Part-time employment must not be allowed to interfere with your daughter’s progress at school.
9. Pupils should not take up holiday employment until the term is over.
10. School uniform must be worn by all students.
11. School Disciplinary Code must be obeyed by all students.
12. The school day is long and homework demanding. A good night’s rest is essential if your daughter is to concentrate on her work. You should try to establish a regular bed-time and curtail T.V. viewing and baby-sitting during the week. We expect each pupil to do her best to spend about two hours (extra for Senior Cycle) each night at homework and some extra time at weekends. The homework set is only to ensure that what is taught in class is fully grasped.
CARE OF STUDENT’S PROPERTY
- All books, bags, coats, games/P.E. gear, should be clearly marked with the student’s name.
- Please provide your daughter with a sturdy school bag. This helps to protect books.
- Please cover books, copies etc., so that they remain in good condition.
- Students are personally responsible for looking after their property. Books etc., should not be left in classrooms overnight. Lockers may be used for their Safekeeping.
- Please note that student’s property is not covered by the school’s insurance. School Management cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to same. Consequently, students are asked to leave all valuables, (jewellery, expensive pens, items of sentimental value, etc.) at home.
Students must assume responsibility for all their possessions. This is an essential life-skill.
Note: MONEY AND PERSONAL PROPERTY IS THE PUPIL’S own responsibility. Lockers are provided but are not necessarily a safe-keeping place for money.
