What an early start…

6am breakfast and a three hour bus journey south to Naples. We saw Capri in the distance, Mount Vesuvius on the left, and the huge Bay of Naples sparkling in the sunshine. When we got to the drop off point of Vesuvius, we met another school tour from France who said that the crater was closed due to high winds. It was disappointing, but we could see that going up would be a huge health and safety risk. Instead, we looked out on the bay and took some photos. This is the perfect excuse to come back someday.

Pompeii town was cute with a little market square and restaurants. Then we headed to the entrance to the ancient ruins and met our guides. The tour of the city was amazing. The beautiful mosaics, the sliding doors, the fountains, the cobbled streets, the amphitheatre, the pillars. Incredible.

Stopped for pizza in Caserta and celebrated Emma Collins’ birthday. Then some gorgeous ice cream and home.

Loudest part of the day: The morning bells that chime EARLY!!!

Rip off of the day: That revolting coffee that cost four euros for a teeny cup at the pit stop on the way to Naples. Yuk!

Coolest purchase of the day: Mr P’s Maradona magnet.

Yummiest part of the day: The gelato after dinner.

Saddest part of the day: Seeing those casts of the children who perished in the eruption of Pompeii.

Most fascinating part of the day: The Pompeii guided tour. Wow.

Best part of the day: Getting into bed after being so uncomfortable on the bus. Who can ever sleep properly on a bus? Not me.
