Orla Finnerty, 6th Year student represents Ireland at The European Youth Parliment

The European Youth Parliament is a non-partisan and independent educational project, that is tailored specifically to the needs of young European citizens. The aims are to develop interest in European issues in young people and empower young people to question the world around them and come up with innovative solutions to global problems.

Orla Finnerty, 6th year student in Sacred Heart Secondary School, Clonakilty attended her first regional session of the European Youth Parliamenton the 22nd of January, 2016. Over 100 delegates attended the session under the theme, “Europe in the Wider World”. Orla was a member of the committee discussing the issue of child marriage all over the world. Orla impressed so much that she was chosen to represent Munster in a National session.

 

The National session was held on the 19th of March, 2016. The theme of the session was “Remembering our country’s past, imagining our countries future”. From this session 32 delegates were chosen, including Orla to represent Ireland internationally. Orla has been made an alumni of European Youth Parliament, Ireland. Orla now travels to the European Youth Parliament, in Trondheim, Norway along with 7 other Irish delegates.
