SHSS AEN
Additional Educational Needs (AEN) Department – SHSS
The AEN Department at SHSS is dedicated to supporting all students to reach their full potential within an inclusive and nurturing learning environment. The AEN department comprises the AEN Coordinator and AEN Team. The department works in partnership with Learning Support teachers, Mainstream teachers, parents, and students to ensure individual learning needs are identified, understood, and supported effectively.
The AEN Team includes lead teachers for each year group, who oversee provision of learning support, monitor progress, and collaborate with subject teachers to introduce and adapt teaching and learning strategies. The team meets regularly to review student progress, share best practice, and ensure consistency of support across the school.
Regular communication with parents and students is central to the department’s approach, helping to build strong partnerships that foster confidence and academic success. The AEN Department also coordinates RACE (Reasonable Accommodations for Certificate Examinations) and other exam supports, ensuring that eligible students receive the appropriate assistance to demonstrate their abilities under fair and supportive conditions.
Autism Classes – SHSS
At SHSS, we are proud to offer dedicated Autism Classes designed to support students with Autism throughout their school journey. These classes provide a calm, structured, and nurturing environment where students can learn, grow, and develop confidence both academically and socially.
Our three Autism Classes – Room 22, Room 25, and Room 47 – are each led by a dedicated lead teacher who oversees the care, learning, and wellbeing of every student. The team works closely with families and the wider school community to ensure that each student feels supported, included, and empowered to reach their full potential.
