Reflecting on Activity Week 2024

“Embarking on an Activity Week is like opening a Treasure Chest of experiences, each day brimming with excitement and discovery. From thrilling outdoor adventures, Activity Week promised a journey beyond the ordinary.”

Sophie Mertuska Transition Year Student

In this review, we revisit our recent Activity Week, tracing the highs and lows, the laughter and  the challenges that coloured our days.

On Monday, our first workshop really surprised me, “How to Present Me”. I was expecting quite a lot of talking and a slideshow presentation, but it was really interactive.Later that day we had  a workshop titled “CPR Saving lives' '.I found this intriguing because I Discovered that  it can significantly improve someone's chance of surviving when a  bystanders take prompt action in difficult situations. I found this really useful, as now I have developed a skill that can really help me in the future.

Tuesday, we had a whole workshop day, featuring  a cold mine-themed game that helped with our planning skills. It was followed by a bridge-building activity. Despite  great efforts at teamwork  my  team didn't win. Nonetheless, it was a memorable day of challenges and camaraderie.

Wednesday. The day began with two hours of step and exercise, that I thoroughly enjoyed, and found invigorating. After lunch, we delved into a Law Education course, which surprisingly captivated my interest. Learning about my rights, and exploring various court-related professions proved to be both informative and engaging. As the day drew to a close, one of the highlights emerged: a Creative Session where we crafted a beautiful collage. Working together as a team, we meticulously cut out images from posters and newspapers to create a vibrant, food-themed masterpiece.

Thursday, had to be my favourite day. I have a great fondness for nature and going out as a year.So our trip to Gougane Barra really made this week  both a valuable , and memorable one. I thought the weather would worsen as time passed, but when the sky cleared up, and the sun started shining, I was overcome with happiness.I felt an immediate sense of tranquillity wash over me. The fresh, crisp air invigorated my senses, while the symphony of natural sounds filled me with a profound sense of peace and connectedness. It was a great way to build friendships.

Friday, the last day of Activity Week, but the day I'd remember forever. I love music with a passion, so the minute Áine and Viktoria walked in I knew this workshop was for me.  Ending the day with karaoke, my friends and I knew it was our time to shine. Of course we picked a song from “Mamma Mia” and did our own choreography. I was really nervous to be on stage, nauseous even. However, when I went on stage hearing the cheer from my classmates, I knew I had nothing to worry about.

Overall, what a great week, with memories that will stay with me forever.
