Sacred Heart Secondary Inter-schools Showjumping.
There was a huge turnout for the Sacred Heart Secondary Interschools Showjumping Event on Friday the 25th November. The event was held at The West Cork Equine Centre, by kind permission of Wayne and Geri Santry, and included both team and individual jumping. The team event was very well supported with fourteen teams in total from: Sacred Heart Secondary School, Bandon Grammar School, Scoil Mhuire, Kinsale Community School, Skibbereen Community School, St Brogan’s, Ballincollig Community School, Coláiste Choilm and St Mary’s Midleton.
Competitors, horses and parents braved the darkness, the cold and the foggy conditions to take part in an exciting jump-off. The eight teams battled it out until 7pm when the Scoil Mhuire girls took the lead, with Kinsale Community School a close second. Ballincollig Community School finished in third place and St Mary’s Midleton took fourth place. There were four classes and over a hundred rounds of individual jumping on the day. The St Mary’s girls dominated the leader board in the 1 metre competition running away with first, second and third place.
The school Equestrian club would like to thank our sponsors: O Brien’s Saddlery, Old Chapel Mills, Stock Health Bandon and Lissavaird Co-op and also to thank all the parents and teachers who helped out and made the day such a great success. We hope to see you all again next year!
