5th Year LCVP Business visit to Clonakilty Chocolates
Today our fifth year LCVP class visited Clonakilty Chocolate as part of our Summary Report. We learned a lot of information about the business and its history. Alison Roberts the owner was born in Canada and became hooked on the craft of chocolate making at the age of 12 when she took part in a local workshop making and selling chocolate in her hometown. Alison later moved to Ireland and set up Clonakilty chocolate factory in 2010. Since then she has employed another woman who makes and sells the chocolate with her. They make the chocolate using only Fairtrade Ghanaian cocoa beans and natural healthier sweeteners such as coconut sugar. They make many different flavours of chocolate such as orange, chilli chai, goats’ milk, decadent dark, seriously minted, Wild West salty, and a 100% pure cocoa bar. Other products include cocoa husk tea, roasted cocoa beans, truffles, fruit and nut mendiants, lollies Easter eggs, Santas and favours for weddings or parties. Alison concluded on how she plans to expand the business from her house to a shop front in the future.
