Transition Year Students complete GAA Coaching course with Kevin O’ Donovan
On The 28th Of March, Kevin O’Donovan (Cork GAA Coaching officer) came to our school to do a coaching course with members of Changing the Game and Transition Year. We spoke with him about our YSI Project and he gave us some useful advice. We then learned about coaching different age groups, and how different coaching methods have to be used for each age group. He spoke about the basic principles of coaching each age group, and went on to teach us how to properly train younger age groups, showing us skills such as kicking and even bouncing the ball. We were split into different groups and went down to the Astro-Turf to put these methods into practice. Each member of the group had to teach a different skill and Kevin critiqued and gave advice on our coaching methods. The day was very beneficial to all who took part, especially those in Transition Year who coach GAA teams.
