Friendship/Kindness Week

An annual affair in Sacred Heart Secondary School, the much adored Friendship Week returned to the school this Monday. Unsurprisingly, it has been warmly received by all.

The week was a huge success, all thanks to 5th Year YSI advocates Fódhla Daly, Aideen Murphy, Katie Kiely, Ciara Butler, Molly Byrne, Eve Murphy, Siobhán Kennefick, Imogen Weller and Kate Quinlan. Their top priority is to promote positive mental health and kindness throughout the school. This week, the girls organised a range of fun activities, designed to extend the hand of friendship to all, and break the ice amongst first years, many of whom have yet to get to know their peers.

The 1st years gathered eagerly in the GPR each day for a series of fun-filled, team building activities. These included a creative day of bracelet making and a fantastic singing workshop, led by the one and only Orla Scully of ‘Teen Soul’. The highlight of the week according to many first years was Thursday’s activity, where the girls partook in an energetic rendition of dance, to ‘Mamma Mia’ classics and more. The room was buzzing with energy, ecstatic faces and laughter being the overriding theme of the day.

Friendships can last a lifetime, and are often sparked by initiatives such as Friendship week. It is designed to reinforce the importance of positive relationships

built on trust, empathy and respect among students in their school environment. Over the years, Friendship Week has evolved and adapted, to engage all students, and 2018 was no exception! Smiles lit up the room, with girls beaming from ear to ear.

A special thanks to Orla Scully for gracing us with her talents, and to the dedicated 5th Year YSI representatives for organising such an amazing week!
