Africa Trip to Malawi during mid-term with Self Help Africa a wonderful experience

We’re having an amazing experience here in Malawi.
We visited a school today and presented them with jerseys, football, rugby ball, pumps, playing cards, stationary, tin whistles, Irish fairy tales. We taught the Malawian students Irish dancing, Ionsaí na hInse (Siege of Ennis) Rogha an Fhile (The Poet’s Choice) to music and also had a soccer game Irish v Malawian, just a friendly ;-) we also taught the Malawians Gaeilge; successfully!

We learned how to graft plants; we were taught and shown the various produce of horticultural markets, were invited to meet adult students who have learned to write, which was wonderful and moving experience.
We have learned about the vision of Self-Help Africa; to increase productivity and sustainability. The issues of climate change, gender inequality, sustainability & agriculture have been to the fore in many of the discussions.
We visited various projects in villages and communities in Malawi; all of whom gave us a warm welcome and we participated in many Self-Help Africa Projects; irrigation, crop rotation, dual planting and also production of stove pots which are environmentally friendly (burning less fuel when cooking).
We have enjoyed and learned African dance and music.
It is a wonderful experience and we all feel privileged to be here.
