Cork County Council’s Local Enterprise Office, Cork North and West hosted a special Women in Business Event to mark International Women’s Day at The Celtic Ross Hotel on March 8th. The “Push for Progress” event which also coinciding with Local Enterprise Week  featured some of Ireland’s leading business women including Cocoa Brown founder Marissa Carter and communications maven, author and columnist Terry Prone.

Aimed at female entrepreneurs, business owners and those with a business idea, the event focused on how women can excel in business while achieving a balance and learn new techniques to deal with stressful times.

Deidre O’Shaughnessy, 96FM, was the MC and a wide variety of speakers including business woman, Barbara Nugent of Transilient Coaching, branding expert and entrepreneur Jennie McGinn, and yoga therapist Jess Hatchett shared their experiences.  Attendees also had the opportunity to network and make new connections throughout the day.

Speaking in advance of the event, Christine Heffernan, Business Adviser, Local Enterprise Office Cork North and West said, “We have engaged some of the straightest talking women in business to make this a one day event of learning and networking not to be missed. Each of our speakers bring a wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to building brands and businesses which they will impart to attendees on the day. All too often we hear our female clients requesting more networking opportunities so we have combined this with inspirational speakers to host a unique and exciting event.

She continued, “Working women today often find it difficult to find the right balance between work and home life and also find time for themselves. Each woman will tell their own unique story of how they have found both success and joy from what they do and how every woman in business can discover this for themselves. International Women’s Day is about celebrating women and encouraging each other, so the event will be a positive and inspiring one for all attendees.
