All Ireland Basketball Qualifier Report

Our 1st year Basketball team traveled to Kilkenny on Monday to take part in an All Ireland Quarter Final Playoff. Four Regional winning teams took part in the competition which ensured that the standard of basketball was very high.

Our first game was against Ballybunion with Sacred Heart leading from the start. However a combination of untimely injuries and collective team fouls saw the Kerry team slowly but surely work their way back into the game. Ultimately we were piped by just a single point.

The next game followed immediately against a very talented team from Milltown in Dublin. Despite the disappointment of the first game the Clonakilty girls rallied and produced a much more controlled performance hitting the lead in the last two minutes and holding out for a magnificent 2 point win.

In the third and final game against Rosbercon College from New Ross our girls knew that qualification was not possible due to our results not going our way. None the less our squad of extremely tired players put in a fine performance but ultimately couldn't overcome the eventual winners of the competition.

While our girls were naturally disappointed not to make further progress they can take heart in the fact that they have been very successful this year including winning a county title before Easter.
