Action for Climate Justice
Sacred Heart students held a rally and walked in protest against climate injustice. The protest was organised by our YSI Advocate s and Mr O’Sullivan . Prior to the protect Aideen Murphy delivered this address to the student body.
‘In a few minutes we will be walking out of school as part of the School Strike for Climate Change, a movement to protest government inaction on climate change. We would like to mention that our school has taken significant steps to reduce our carbon footprint and be more climate-friendly in recent years. These include insulating school walls, installing a new, more efficient gas-condensing boiler and renovating the sixth year prefabs. The school will be installing LED light-bulbs this summer, a big step which will greatly reduce electricity usage. However, action like this on the part of individual schools will not suffice if we are to stop climate change and meet our Paris Agreement goals. Please make your way to the old car park at 12.25 with your teacher after first going to your scheduled class at that time. Remember, it's our future at stake and this is your chance to let the government know what we want. System change, not climate change.’
