Senior team bow out of Munster championship after Semi-Final clash
Munster senior football County Semi Final
On the 15th of January, Sacred Hearts senior football team travelled to the 4G pitch in Pairc Uí Chaoimh to play Kanturk in the Munster semi final. Ms O Brien, the girls’ coach, gave the girls a quick team talk before throw in at 11.10. Grace Tobin and Bríd Collins started in mid field and soon the ball was kicked down to our forwards. Síofra Patwell and Ciara O’Sullivan worked the ball into Ciara deasy who kicked the ball over the bar, making it the first score of the match. The backs were under pressure soon after that but Ruth Shanley, Meabh O’Donovan(captain) and Sarah Connolly stayed strong with Alison Moriarty(goalie) blocking any chance of goal. However after another point to clon by Ciara deasy Kanturk scored two goals. Near half time Sacred Heart were fouled, Ciara deasy took to free and sent it straight over the bar. By half time the score was 2.4 to 0.6 to Kanturk, Orlaith and Ciara Deasy being the main scorers for clon. The whistle blew up for the second half and Kanturk quickly got three points , making it 7 points between the teams. The girls never gave up and proved it 10 minutes to go when Kiya O’Mahony scored a goal. Clonakilty were back in the game again. Kanturk sent another over the bar but almost immediately the ball was sent down to our forwards again. Clonakilty were fouled and a penalty was given. Orlaith deasy took the penalty and scored a goal leaving only two points between the teams. Unfortunately time ran out and we lost by two points, the final score at 2.8 to 2.6.
