Road Safety Roadshow

TY Road Safety Roadshow

On Tuesday the 21st January the Transition Years went to the Road Safety Roadshow in Rochestown Park Hotel. The show was designed to raise awareness about car accidents among teenagers and the horrific consequences tied to these accidents. There were various speakers brought up to talk such as a Garda who experience these accidents almost on a weekly basis. He talked about how the majority of these accidents can be fatal to those involved. A fireman, a paramedic and a neurosurgeon who all deal with these cases. They spoke about how some incidents stay with them forever and about all the other people that are affected when a crash is caused by something as common as a new teen driver taking risks and inevitably ending up on the side of the road. At the end a man who lost his daughter to a car crash 15 years ago bravely spoke. What he said was very moving and definitely hit home with al the teenagers in the room. All the girls found this show very eye opening and very effective.
