SHSS capture Junior Cork Colleges Title

Congratulations to our Junior Camogie Team who captured the Junior Cork Colleges title in Castle Road last evening. It was a highly competitive game with a physical intensity, both sides combative to the end. SHSS got off to a flying start with Ailbhe Berely and Kate Crowley showing well up front. With 20 minutes gone it was 6 points to 2 and the Clonakilty school were in the ascendancy. However, Kinsale C.S were beginning to force themselves into the game with their high pressing game. That pressure began to tell with increasing possession and then a long and dangerous ball directed into the edge of the square ended with a well taken goal. SHSS reacted well and were unlucky not to goal with the next play of the game. Then Aoife White alert to a half-blocked attempt, reacted first to double on the sliotar and the net was rattled. The second half proved to be even more combative with plenty of rucks and intense defending with little space to play an open game of camogie. Kinsale C.S found their gear and began clawing their way back into the game. With 8 minutes left it was a 4 point game, but as the saying goes, goals win games and it was 2 well taken 2nd half goals ( K. Crowley & A. Berely) that proved too much for the Kinsale students who fought gallantly to the end. Well done to the SHSS girls and to their coaches, Mr. Daly and Ms. Shanahan. Amber Bishop gratefully accepted the cup on behalf of the team.
