Senior Camogie Team Triumph and Advance to the Semi-Final
Our Senior Camogie team are Munster semi-final bound after an emphatic victory after extra time in Castle Road today. In less than favourable conditions, it was Borrisokane who struck first with two early goals.
Our girls settled into the game with points from Leah and Clíona before Harte found the net after hard graft from Jane, Ellie, Mairead and Shona, which left the halftime score all level at 2:01 - 1:04. With the game finely balanced in the second half, Ailbhe, Aoife, Roisin, Julie and Saoirse made an immediate impact, injecting much needed energy. Clíona and Ailbhe added points to edge Sacred Heart one point ahead with seven minutes remaining. Borrisokane responded with 1:02 in quick succession to leave Sacred Heart trailing with just minutes remaining. But true to form, Sacred Heat showed their never say die attitude. Grace H and Ashling Coakley worked relentlessly, and Clíona added two well-worked scores to level the game in the dying moments. When leaders were needed most, they stood tall across the pitch. Grace, Ashling Coakley, Lucy, Laura, Eimear, Nicole, Louise and the ever inspiring joint captain Jill worked tirelessly and got through a mountain of work all afternoon.
This team showed grit and determination in spades today, with Clíona and Ailbhe in particular sparking belief in this team by registering two crucial goals and points galore in extra time. Seodhna and Emma came on to freshen things up and Aisling Crowley remained solid in goal throughout in her senior debut. Harte tagged on another few points for good measure to see the game out and Sacred Heart emerged victorious on a scoreline of 4:12 to 5:03 after an enthralling game.
A special mention to the girls who today played their third game in three days, with legs feeling tired and heavy, their effort was unwavering. A complete team performance, well done to all!
