West Cork Rally Expo Visit for Engineering Week

As part of Engineering Week, we were delighted to welcome members of the organising committee from the West Cork Rally, along with Art McCarrick from Motorsport Ireland, to our school on the 3rd of March.

Students were given an engaging presentation on the world of rally motorsport, with a particular focus on the important safety features used during rally events. The visitors demonstrated the specialised equipment that both drivers and co-drivers must wear while competing, explaining how each piece helps keep competitors safe.

Students had the opportunity to see items such as helmets, the HANS (Head and Neck Support) device, and fireproof suits and underclothing. The presenters also showed examples of pacenotes and the roadbook, giving students an insight into how drivers and co-drivers navigate rally stages.

It was a very informative and enjoyable session, giving students a fascinating look into the engineering, preparation, and safety involved in rally motorsport. We would like to thank the team from the West Cork Rally and Motorsport Ireland for taking the time to visit and share their expertise with our students.
