Sacred Heart 6-08 Loretto Fermoy 1-12
The old adage” goals win games” was once again proven correct at a wet Ahamilla today. Sacred Heart conjured up 6, including a spectacular Aoife White hatrick, while Loretto only managed the one.
It’s not as if the Fermoy based school didn’t create chances, they did and plenty of them but they were thwarted at regular interval by the heroics of Megan Whelton in the Clonakilty goal.
Loretto, having won the toss, played with the aid of a significant breeze and began in determined fashion, forging into a 3 point lead inside the opening 5 minutes. The response from SHSS was deadly and from their first foray into the Loretto half, they goaled. Aoife White finishing to the net, after a devastating solo run and ferocious strike, so precise it hit the back stantion and rebounded out.
The tone was sent for a first half where Loretto dominated possession and territory but Sacred Heart were econominakmintheir endeavours. White added a second goal as did Kate Collins with both players also pilfering points. The midfield and defence kept up their side of the agreement also and limited Loretto on the scoreboard. Aine Hennessy, Matilda o Donovan, Ella Haughney and especially Juliet Harte were superb in trying conditions.

The conditions were now beginning to worsen but the standard of camogie kept the large attendance enthralled. Right from the throw in, 2nd year student Leah O Brien, a half time substitute, had a dream introduction to Junior Camogie. Racing on to a long ball she outpaced the cover before finishing with aplomb.
Team captain Eibhlin Murphy was now beginning to exert a significant influence on proceeding and she added two points in quick succession. Kate Collins further added to her tally when another goal and two and Aoife Harte added two scores of her own to go within her exceptional workrate.
On 50 minutes the game was over as a contest, and what a way to seal the win. Niamh Doyle gained possession out on the left wing, beat her marker, and then rifled a cross field pass, 40 metres straight into the run of White, who, having gained possession, shaped to shoot off her left but dummied, instead crashing a right sided effort to the roof of the net for her hat trick. Game over .
