Activity Week 2025

On Monday February 10th, the TY students from SHSS began Activity Week. Our first activity was the Develop Me workshop. We were divided into three groups. Each group would play the same game and the group that got the most amount of gold bars would win. It was a fun game that helped us develop teamwork skills as well as communication skills. After that, we built a bridge with small pieces that clicked together. We had to build it in the least amount of time possible, so we were racing against the clock. As a team, we built towers, bases and roads to create our bridge.

Develop Me specialises in bringing the highest quality experiential learning training into the secondary school classroom. Through experiential learning we currently focus on two critical areas for today’s students: project management and understanding effective teamwork.

Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more specifically defined as “learning through reflection on doing”.

On Tuesday 11th, we did activities with RSA.We put on goggles to see how it would be like to drive drunk, played games and tried 360º virtual reality, as well as a simulation of driving a motorbike. We also did a class of Wellbeing where we coloured mandalas to clear our heads ,while listening to music. Later on that day, the TY students had a Subject Road Show to help us with our subject choice for Fifth Year.

On Wednesday 12th, the TY students went on a Wellness Retreat to Gougane Barra. This involved walking and hiking in the forest ,and reconnecting with nature. On Thursday 13th, some of the students stayed to do Tai Chi and Yoga activities in the school while some of the students went  on a visit to Apple Computers, where they engaged in a programme specifically designed for TY students , titled “ Technology and Girls

Finally, on February 14th, the Business Department at SHSS organised “BUSINESS ALIVE” an event where various successful speakers from different walks of life shared their inside knowledge of the business world. After the forum of questions, and answers led by Rob Heffernan, the students went on a “Red Walk” to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

To finalise Activity Week, a karaoke session was held in the GPR for all students.

It was a wonderful week where the TY students from SHSS got to enjoy activities together and promote teamwork.
