Transition Year Students visit Geata Arts
The Geata Arts was a very interesting experience. It was full of different masks, made from different materials found in meadows that are made for the Samhain Festival every year. Mark, of the Geata Center showed us many different designs, and paintings all using different materials. He showed us some of his own creations ,and was very excited to show us around the work shop / Studio.
The masks all looked different .There were animals ,and people of all different sizes and shapes. Mark told us that it is harder to find natural materials for the masks now , because they can’t get access to meadows, or green areas anymore because the farmers are cutting down the grasses and leaves. He expressed his concern for the environment, and was eager for us to know more about it. It was a very cool day out for our class and it was very interesting to know about how everything is made for Samhain!
Thanks to Mark ,and our Art Teacher Ms O Connell for this wonderful experience .
