Senior Camogie Team get Munster campaign off to a win in Limerick.

The opening round of the Munster Colleges Senior Camogie, saw a dominant SHSS side, comprehensively defeat their Limerick opponents, today in Buttevant. Captain Eimear Whelton , having won the toss, elected to play with the aid of the significant wind and after encountering early defiance, the score scoreboard began to tick over. 

The Barryroe trio of Cliona Harte, Kate Collins, and the impressive Niamh Doyle (2) all raised white flags in the opening ten minutes as Doon struggles to get out of their own half. A further one pointer, from the in form Aoife White was followed by the games first major from Cork Minor Harte, was followed by 1-1 from Collins and another White wonder point .

Saoirse Gilmore, now operating on the 40, thundered into the game and added two more points before the talented Harte added a further 1-1.

The midfield duo of Whelton and Aoife Harte played a significant amount of ball into the forward line during the opening stanza as did Ballinascarthy stalwart Amber Bishop. 

Half time 3-11 0-1

Turning  to face the elements in the second half, the SHSS objective was to keep the workrate and intensity, and win that half too. That they did, due in no small part to the strength of the squad. Eabha Ni Bhuachalla, Luisne Deiseach, Izzy Aherne and Aoife Walsh all put their hands up for inclusion from the start with excellent displays. 

Clon scored the first goal of the  second half and this put any remote chance of a comeback to bed. Harte senior scoring after great approach play from her younger sister Aoife. Gilmore and White goaled soon after and along with Harte took well deserved rests. 

The highlight of the second half was Amber Bishops move to corner forward. Showing her versatility she added 1-02 from play. All scores right out of the top drawer. 

SHSS move on to the second game of the group on Tuesday 6th in Castle Road Mahon where a win would guarantee progress into the next stage of the competition.
