Adult Education Presentation of Certificates

Pictured are members of latest group of Adult Learners that followed one of the three QQI courses that we have been providing here at Sacred Heart secondary school for the last ten years. Forty four adult learners attended these years classes, all of whom acquired either major or component awards in their chosen area of study.

Quality Qualifications Ireland (QQI ) is the national awarding body for all certification purposes within the country. Our courses are sanctioned by the BETI program. This program is offered here at Sacred Heart Secondary School to adults who wish to return to education.

The funding for which comes ultimately from SOLAS.

There is a progression pathway onward from the courses to higher level awards and to full time third level courses. For instance, in September 2016 five of the graduates from this grouping have taken up full time a social studies degree course as undergraduates under a mature student scheme offered at University College,Cork

In addition many of the graduates from this latest cohort have progressed into full time and part time employment with local and regional business enterprises, particularly in care areas offered as a service by many of the local residential care facilities located in the west Cork area. In addition some graduates each year progress to take up employment with other organisations such as COPE, Co-Action and other social services units in the region. Some of the employment opportunities that have presented themselves fall into the categories. Examples being such as those associated with that of Respite Worker ,Home Help, Care Attendants, Healthcare Assistants, Personal Assistant, Special Needs Assistant and that of  Voluntary Work.

YSI Advocate 'Go Orange week "it's ok not to feel ok"

Last week, the YSI advocates and a fourth years class worked together to put a smile on people's faces. On Wednesday there was a bake sale which raises €100 which will be donated to cycle against suicide. Posters with the motto "it's ok not to feel ok" were put up around the school for everyone to see. On Friday students all gathered together in the ref, decked out in orange to perform a dance we had learnt in UL at a cycle against suicide event. The mascots dressed up in orange onesies handed out sweets and painted everyone's faces orange. At the ends of lunch, feel good notes were slipped to students around the school. It was a very successful week and we hope that the message "it's ok not to feel ok" was heard
